Baked French Toast
Servings: 10
Skill Level: Beginner
Total Time: 90 minutes
Ingredients:
¾ each Sourdough loaf, sliced thick, halved or torn (save leftover bread)
8 each Eggs
2 cups Milk, 2%
½ cup Half and Half
¼ cup Sugar
¼ cup Brown sugar
2 T. Vanilla extract
Topping:
½ cup Flour
½ cup Brown sugar, firmly packed
1 tsp. Cinnamon, ground
¼ tsp. Salt
1 stick Butter, cold, cut into pieces
¼ tsp. Nutmeg, ground
8 cups Berries, mixed, choice
Preparation:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
For French Toast: Grease 13 x 9 casserole pan with butter. Tear bread into bite size pieces or chop into bite-size cubes and evenly distribute in pan.
Crack eggs in large mixing bowl. Whisk together eggs, milk, cream, sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla. Pour egg mixture over the bread. (feel free to prepare this a day in advance and store in fridge overnight for optimal results)
For Topping: Mix flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, salt and nutmeg in bowl. Stir together with fork. Add butter. Using pastry cutter or fork, mix all together until the mixture turns into fine like pebbles – this part may take some time.
Sprinkle topping over French toast. Make sure to evenly distribute.
Bake in oven for 45 minutes to 1 hour.
Cool for at least 10-15 minutes before cutting. Scoop out individual portions and have with berries, fruit, nuts or toppings of choice.
Serving Size: 1/10th of pan
